I created this necklace with a polished rock pendant I found while in Quartzsite, AZ. So many wonderful bead shops there!

This dark gray (grey) polished rock has some beautiful swirl affects and goes beautifully with the clear glass cubes and fresh water pearls. The pearls are gold and silver/black. Stunningly crocheted with pearl cotton crochet thread by DMC.

"Loony for Looms" My first review of a wonderful product.

Here's my first review of a wonderful ebook I found. I was so excited when I found it and I wanted to share it right away but I forgot about it and then got involved with the other posts. So here goes. I'll keep looking for free patterns for you, though. Free knitting, free crochet, free sewing, free cute patterns!

Have you tried loom knitting yet? I did awhile ago and was disappointed in how many patterns there were for me to try so I gave it up. That reminds me, I have a sock pattern I designed that I should post for you. This was a few years ago and since that time, there's more and more patterns and even a Yahoo group or two where they share loom patterns.

There's even great looms available now compared to when I loom knitted. And more patterns! Great ones! Have you seen them? Wow, some are very complicated and some really beautiful! The patterns and the looms.

Do you think maybe I spend too much time on the internet? LOL Well, maybe I do, but I was so happy to find this and I love sharing.

The "Loony for Looms" is an ebook and I think could be great for you if you into loom knitting. The patterns are supposed to be easy and there's more than just hat patterns. There's patterns for baby, toddler and small dog sweaters booties, warm slippers and even doll clothes. Where else you gonna find such an array of patterns? And they're easy! I know loom knitting is very easy. I've made a few socks and hats myself.

Do you have the KniftyKnitter looms yet? They've come out with so many different shapes and sizes. I want them all! I was having trouble with my hands for awhile there and found the looms to be a great way to keep knitting but I could never find patterns I like. This give me an idea......I better go find my looms. But they are a great solution if you have problems with arthritis or whatever.

"Loony for Looms"

The pattern for adult Slippers, completely lined and knit in one piece. This is the Christmas stocking. I wouldn't mind a few of them and maybe this fall I'll have time to make them.

This book is a must for all loom knitters I think. When I buy mine, I'll let you know how I like it. In fact, I just might get one for my daughter for Christmas. I know, it seems like Christmas is a long way off but it never hurts to start shopping.

Red Heart Mini Purse Patterns using Heart and Sole

Look what I made! LOL This is actually a key chain mini purse but I plan on stuffing it and closing it up to make a mini pincushion. Good idea, huh?

I didn't have the Heart and Sole, which is a sock yarn, so I used some other leftover sock yarn. I know I have some Heart and Sole here but do you think I can find it? And who knows, maybe I did but without the paper label, I don't know which it is and I don't want to call it Heart and Sole if I don't know for sure.

It was fun making this little purse and it gave me some great ideas for more. I feel my own pattern coming on! LOL

So get out that sock yarn or any fine gauge, think this one I used is a DK weight, and make some little purses.

Indygo Junction Pincushion Pattern Packet

These are from the Indygo Junction pincushions pattern packet and some are my own design. These first ones are from an Indygo Junction pattern.

Two of these are Indygo Junction patterns and three are not. The tiny one is a vitamin water bottle cap! Don't you just love it!? You can't tell but the one with the blue flower on top is actually in a tart tin. Hey, I'm not a very good photographer but I try.

I'm off to make some more. What am I going to do with all these pincushions? Yikes! But they are so fun to make and I love buying the fabric.

New Craft Sewing Project !

Did you see how long it's been since I posted!? Wow, really sorry about that. I've been so busy working on my other blog Knit and Crochet Pattern Chat and didn't realize people still loved this one. So I'll start showing you the projects I'm working on that aren't knit or crochet related.I went shopping and wound up at Pacific Fabrics. I don't shop there very often because of their location; hard to get in and out of the parking lot, but this time a decided to just do it. They have the best pattern packets and needlework supplies ever. Now, I can't wait to go back.I will be taking some photos and posting my new projects so come back soon. Thank you!Kathy

Back for a second. I'm hoping people will comment and share their photos of their projects with me. If you have a Pacific Fabrics near you, do give them a try. I'm lucky to have a Ben Franklin near by, at least for now. Living in our motorhome, I never know where I'll be next month but right now, I have a Michaels, JoAnns, Ben Franklin AND a Pacific Fabrics. I'm so lucky!

I've had to get real clever in my storage abilities. BUT if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. I've been able to save boxes, small ones, labeled them and have started to store things that way in MY cupboards.

Hope to hear from some of you with some ideas.

I am back. I have had some serious computer problems the last few days but with a new laptop in hand, I'm back to start posting and sharing some new free patterns.

I have May flowers coming to my other blog Knit and Crochet Pattern Chat. I'd like to do the same thing here with some crafting ideas.

UPDATE: We are home again and are in Washington for the summer. I am going to post as many projects on the blog as I can. Living in a motorhome really limits the amount of supplies you can fit in and I'm trying constantly to convince my husband that I really need all my supplies to be creative. I've been knitting socks and now knitting with wool yarns so I can felt the panels and make some nice felted wool fabric pieces to use for my pincushions and I want to make some tea cozies. Christmas is just around the corner again!

Update: This project didn't work for me and was trashed. I just couldn't figure out how to shape it with the wires, etc. that they suggested to use. I even had my engineer husband to help and guess what's needed is a mathematical brain not a creative brain! LOL

At least I enjoy crocheting the whole thing, had the extra thread and didn't mind throwing it out. They say even Picasso didn't paint a masterpiece every time.

If you google Lorenz Manifold, you'll see the people that were able to finish the project.

Big Knitting Needles or Small Knitting Needles? What Will it Be?

Here's the good ideas Tiff from Analog Buttons suggested! Thank you so much. Guess I was thinking Easter and spring instead of April showers. So now I will find a fitting pattern or design. Maybe something using a chunky yarn using large needles or maybe a knitted shawl or scarf using smaller needles and lighter weight yarn.

Keep the ideas coming. I finally found my mismatched socks I knitted so will get a photo taken and get them posted so you can see them. The ones I posted a few days ago using the Red Heart & Sole yarn are so much prettier. The yarn I used was not supposed to automatically stripe which is pretty evident when you seen them. I still think they're ugly! Wait till you see!

Look What You Can Make with Your Scrap Red Heart Worsted Yarn !

I made this medallion afghan with all my scraps of Red Heart Worsted weight yarns. Over the years, I accummulated lots of different colors as I'm sure you have, too.

If you know how, the medallions can be joined together as you crochet that last row so there's no putting it all together when your done. The medallions are round but when putting them together in the last row, think of them as having four sides and you'll do fine. They're attached in two places on each side. Remember, think in terms of it being square. And then, the spaces in between the large medallions are small medallions that aren't sewn in either but you pick up stitches from each medallion around; again in two places. Really neat. Not super warm but looks wonderful on a sofa or chair!

I don't remember, I'm terribly sorry, where this particular pattern came from. I'm pretty sure it was an Annie's Attic pattern from years ago. Remember the little pattern magazine/book? There's one from Annie's Attic on their web sie but it's not free.

I edged as much as I could with black. The black gives it more of a stained glass look. And the Annie's Attic pattern doesn't put the small medallions in between. Here's the free pattern: Freepatterns.com What you have to do is click on the "link", then click on "crochet", "Afghans & Throws", "Traditional Patterns & Techniques" and you'll find the pattern in the top row far right called Arabesque Afghan. You'll have to register to get the free pattern but that's free and easy. The pattern is a pdf file and begins on page 2.

If you have any questions, let me know. It's a fun project and can almost be done with no pattern. I want to show you that you CAN create beautiful projects with acrylic yarns and you don't have to use the expensive brands. Anyway, just think of open work medallions instead of squares and you'll get that wonderful lace shawl look. Pretty, huh? Just think of the possibilities.

That brings me to another idea. When you see a pattern you love and just have to make, look closely to see just what it is about the pattern you love. If it's definitely the color, then make sure you use that color and you'll love your finished project. Most of the time we love something for it's color more than the style. Color can create a feeling, too.

I have been looking for the easiest of easy patterns for a woobie and this one looks really cute but very hard. I am a lefty that doesnt have much time with my business taking out from under me. Is this an easy one to start and stop if I need to?

Sock it To Me! Red Heart & Sole Sock Pattern FREE

I know sometimes I'm just a little behind everyone but I must share with everyone what I found while searching on the Coats and Clark web site. I personally got on the band wagon when it came to the "knitting sock" thing awhile ago and paid $14 for a pair of socks that turned out really nice but even though I made sure the two skeins of yarn I purchased had the same dye lot, they sure don't look the same to me. A big disappointment when I paid so much and the only thing I could do was return the yarn BUT I had already spent so much time creating the first one and was halfway down the top when it was discovered. The pattern calls for 2 - 3 skeins depending on the size. Linda's prices are so reasonable, instead of $14 for a pair of socks, you can get the yarn for under $10!

Coats and Clark's Red Heart yarns has a wonderful yarn for socks. It's called Heart & Sole. So cute, huh? It's permeated with all the wonderful properties of aloe vera which helps the yarn glide smoothly on the needles and/or hook. This yarn can also be used for childrens wear, home decor and many accessories. The best thing EVER is that this yarn automatically stripes like the expensive yarns! How cool is that?!

My Favorite Red Heart Yarn Project

Here's one of my favorite Red Heart Yarn projects. If anyone is interested, I can locate the pattern for you but I can guarantee you it was a free one. That's my youngest grandson who is now going on 3 years old so this was knitted a couple Christmases ago. He makes a very good model, don't you think?

There's many many wonderful patterns out there that can make your inexpensive yarns look terrific if used in a different way. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box. Someone did here with the use of just knit and purl and the combination of the two stitches. The color combination was by my design.

My next post I'm going to list my top 10 favorite Red Heart Yarns.

Free Shamrock Crochet Pattern for March

Well, I found my favorite shamrock pattern. I was so happy to find the printed pattern and then also find the web site. We’ll make our purchase, leave that particular check-out and go back through just to be able to use two coupons at the same store! Have you seen some of the new yarns today? Have you felt them? The textures are to die for!

Ok, you find all those wonderful fibers at wonderful prices. The typical knitter buys their stash and then takes it home and stores it someplace. It’s a game we all play but shouldn’t. We should dig that stash out and use it! What are we saving it for? Ok, maybe you’ve stashed it away so good, you can’t find it. Hey, and then when you DO find it, is a wonderful surprise!

Ok, you found your stash. Now what? Feel it, squeeze it, smell it. Dream about what you can create with it. What would that particular yarn be best used for? Wait, did you buy enough? That’s a problem sometimes, too, so take that into consideration. Don’t think too hard about it or you’ll be putting that yarn right back where you found it…..unused! Just think, if you’d use it, you can go buy more!

Have you ever taken that skein of yarn and after squeezing it and smelling it, decided what you want to make with it, finding out you don’t have quite enough; don’t dispare! Many yarns can be combined with other yarns of the same thickness or need the same type of care. Don’t forget that yarns you use need the same care when combined with other yarns to keep your garment or project easy to clean and care for. Let your imagination fly. Different yarns can create stripes or maybe contrasting cuffs or bands.

Don’t hang on to your yarns too long. They can deteriorate and even get moldy if not properly stored. And some yarns do get outdated in they’r look. Remember trendy yarns come and go.

We don’t know what yarns are coming up in the next season so use that yarn and enjoy your project now. It’s most certain that newer yarns and textures will come along and that their place so get it out and use it.

Another thing that dates a yarn, is it’s color or color combination. If you ever get to see a manufacturers sample card take a close look at the colors that are featured first or as their “new” colors and their combinations. What colors are placed together? They have already figured it out for you as to what colors go well together. I always like to use colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Check that out.

There are some classic yarns and yarn types that’ll always be “in style” for common projects like afghans but remember home décor changes, too. But don’t forget that older yarns don’t make a great fashion statement. Use that yarn before you find yourself sitting for that yarn and/or color to make a comeback. Then was that such a good bargain?

True crafters get bored with what they know so they try new things that brings us new patterns and peaks our creativity. We learn so much from crocheters who “try new things” or see if “they can copy” that pattern we get new ideas for our own projects.

The chain stitch is the most basic stitch in crocheting. But a combination or variation of this basic stitch can turn into some fabulous designs. So it heeds us to take stock and learn new stitches so we can create our own masterpieces.

Advanced stitches are what teachers of crochet call, well, advanced stitches. But actually they’re just a combination of the basic chain stitch. Its how you use them and in what order you use them that makes them advanced.

If you’re following a pattern just keep following until you get it down but if you’re creating you own stitch, now that’s a little harder. I found when I create my own designs or new stitches if I have a video camera over my shoulder I can see where I made any mistakes or see how I created the stitch—in case I don’t remember.

Everybody, even beginners can make their own stitches or own designs. What one person considers advanced may be the beginnings for another. So don’t be scared of trying new stitches or designs.>BR>

Some other stitches that can be made into other (advanced) stitches are the double treble, hairpin lace, crochet cables, filet crochet, afghan stitch, bullion bauble stitch and the tulip. Scary, isn’t it? But don’t worry they’re all combinations of the basic stitch. And if you can do the basic stitch you can do the advanced stitches.

Crochet Supplies: Do You Have Everything You Need? by: Terry Roberts

There are many supplies used when crocheting and the specific kinds depend solely on the type of patterns used. There are many basic items that beginners need but when using more complicated patterns and designs it can be essential to expand on the crochet supplies used. Yarn and a crochet hook are the most basic supplies but also used are knitting needles and a wide variety of yarn types amongst other items. More than one hook and needle set is needed as they can be left in an unfinished part of the crocheted item while another area is concentrated on. Patterns are a necessary part of the process, especially for beginners or if the person is creating something for the first time.

Anyone learning how to crochet may also need supplies of books or magazines full of tips and patterns. Depending on the type of pattern, other crochet supplies may be needed such as ribbon or lace. Ribbon can be run through certain areas of a crocheted design and lace can be a necessary addition to many designs. When making clothes, materials that can be layered under the yarn may be an important part of your crochet supplies. Sewing needles, threads, beads, sequins and other accessories can all form part of a crochet supply box as they can add decoration to a crocheted piece. There is so much that can be done with crocheted materials that the lists of possible crochet supplies are enormous.

Crochet Yarn Supplies

One of the most significant parts of crocheting is the types of yarns used. There are a huge number of different yarns used for crocheting; the texture and thickness of the yarn is most important. Yarn can have a lot of variations: some are thick, others are thin; yarn can be soft, fluffy, hard and come from many different animals. Yarn can be either natural or synthetic and the five basic types are baby/fingering, sport/baby, worsted weight, chunky and bulky - and they all have different uses.

Fingering weight is mainly used for light items such as socks. Sports weight is heavier and used for items like sweaters. Worsted weight is for much heavier and warmer items. Chunky and bulky are used for very heavy and warm items. Some of the most popular fibers used in yarns include acrylic, alpaca, camel hair, cashmere, chenille, lambs wool, mohair and even silk. The types of yarn depend on the item of clothing and the pattern used. So, as you can see, you’ll need to get yourself a big box to keep all the crochet supplies you’re going to need!

Unfortunately, silly me, forgot to take photos of my cute little creations. BUT, if anyone is familiar with Paton's Pooch yarn, it makes a really adorable baby blanket and we found mixing some green yarn in with the pink, makes it look like a bed of flowers. I'll try to get her to take a photo for you. Afterall, that's her specialty. From now on I'll try to remember to take photos.

This is an exciting month! However, it appears we won't be heading south in our motorhome this winter. Maybe next.

RVing Fulltime?? YES!! Have even more time to CROCHET!!

It has been quite some time since I last posted and there's a really good reason! We have been out in our motorhome having the time of our lives. If you ever have wanted to do this, you MUST give it a try. You really must.

Can you just imagine how much time you would have to crochet and knit if you were out RVing and didn't have to worry about the day-t-day things? You can crochet to your hearts content! You can crochet while "he's" driving, you can crochet while "he's" fishing! lol and you can crochet while "he's" watching that yet another war story on TV!! Can't even feel guilty having all that time to crochet!

Because of the gas prices we HAVE stayed close to home and instead of going out every weekend, we've stayed for a week at a time. Weekends are busy times for RV resorts and since we're retired ee can go anytime we'd like to go and stay as long as we want. The farthest we've gone from home is just under 70 miles.

As you can tell, if you've spent any time on my blog, that I have quite afew interests. I used to have and do a lot more but we downsized and our new house just couldn't accomodate all my crafting supplies! It was time to zero in on my most favorite ones anyway.

RVing in our motorhome has become our latest big interest. It was fun purchasing, if anyone has ay questions about that, just let me know, and has been fun fixing and cleaning and stocking. I'm full of ideas if anyone needs some help and have the save desires as we do. I know lots of web sites and links where you can get tons of informtion. We also renewed our resort membership with Coast to Coast which gives us lots of beautiful and not so beautiful resorts at a very low nightly fee.

On this page, you'll find some new Illusion, also called Shadow, knitting patterns. FREE For starters, here's a double diamond pattern that I designed and used to make a tote bag. The photo will be posted soon. It's a long pattern with over 100 rows so please, if you find any errors, let me know. Thank you for your interest and come back often as I'll be posting more later.
Here's a great tip: print out the chart and enlarge it if you need BUT put it in a page protector and use those dry markers to mark your pattern all you want. Keep track of the row your on, etc.

Illusion Double Diamonds

You may want to print the chart out and enlarge it a bit and use a highlighter to color every two rows starting with Row 3. So Rows 1 and 2 are not colored, Rows 3 and 4 are colored, 5 and 6 are not and so on. Always remember the first row of each color change is always a knit row.
I used knitting needles size 8 and worsted weight yarn. It measures finished: 16" wide X 18" long. I think for a firmer fabric, you should use a smaller needle.
CO 63 with color A in any cast-one you like. If you want it wider, cast on more but remember to add those stitches only at the beginning and the end of each row. I couldn’t add color to my chart so remember to start with row 1 and 2 which will be color A. Row 3 and 4 changes to color B.
This is a very long pattern with over 100 rows. I used to it make a tote bag. What I did was CO with color A but you could use either one just so you continue going back and forth between the two colors. If you have any question, please email me at kma2053@gmail.com

FREE Crochet Afghan Bunny Pattern

Here's your free pattern! I am not very computer literate so I hope you're able to print this out at a decent size for you. There's really no need for any written instructions if you are familiar with crocheting. I do have the instructions written out but when I scanned them, they came out as a pd file which I can send you via email but can't figure out how to attach it here. So just let me know if you want the printed instructions.

These are two silk ties I made when I was doing silk painting.
The next photo is silk painted photo frame. I used a technique which I demonstrated on Aileen's Creative Living back in about 1998 or so. I used one of her glues as my gutta, which creates a fence so when you paint the silk, the paint doesn't flow outside the glue line. When I demonstrated this on TV, I used wood but this technique works well on most anything. I used very thinned out acrylic paint as I didn't need to keep the soft flow of the silk. Make sure you enlarge these photos by clicking on them to see a better view.

This one is called tapestry crochet which can be found and/or seen on www.tapestrycrochet.com
I used wool ease but it turned out quite soft and won't hold it's shape very well. I would recommend a smaller hook than a F, which is what I used. Wool Ease has wonderful color choices but if you check the web site, she also recommends size 3 crochet thread. You can find some nice colors in that thread, too, but all I could find were pastels. Then I believe you use a steel hook size 1. If you love felting, this technique is wonderful for felting also. Check the web site. I plan to create some of my own designs and will post them when I do.

I have anoter basket I crocheted but it's not quite ready for a photo yet.

My Original Acrylic Portrait Paintings

Another one of my favorite things to do is portrait painting. I hand paint the photo portrait on heavy watercolor paper or stretched canvases. I paint the portaits in values of black usually but can do any color. They look great set up on an art easel, also. They're best viewed from a distance but you have to move in close to check out what's going on.This particular one is of my Mother and her siblings. This photo was taken back in the 1930s.

This one is my Mother. Isn't she beautiful!? Reminds me of the movie Titanic. She was probably around late teens to early 20s in this photo/painting. This one in particular looks 100% better if you stand back so your eyes let the colors blend.
This one is of my Mother-in-Law when she was in her early 20s.

The next one is my Father-in-law obviously in his WWII uniform. It's fun to do other types of paintings as well.

If you're interested in having a photo painted of your loved one; Mom, Dad, Grandparent or favorite pet, let me know. They can be done on heavy watercolor paper and framed very nicely. Usually, I charge $89 for 11" X 18" on heavy watercolor paper. That includes shipping priority. ALSO, if you'd rather paint it yourself, I can easily create the pattern for you and you can transfer it to your own canvas and paint it yoursel!

My Quilting Days

These are the quilts I decided to make when I was in the quilting mood. My sister is a wonderful creative quilter and has been encouraging me for years to try it. My first attempt was this borgello quilt! That's me! Try the hardest thing first! This one has no handquilting. Sorry about the fuzzy photo. I'll try another one and change it later.

This quilt is the next one I made. It was a gift to my Mother for her birthday several years ago now. She just loved it. There's photos of us three kids and one of the house she grew up in and one of her and her mother. I always use large pieces and fabric with checks or stripes so I can

follow them easily when doing the hand quilting. There's no need to draw lines. All in all, my quilting experience was fun.

I have two twin size quilts I made using the crazy quilt technique......so easy. Not pictured here.

This is my latest quilt. I love birds so I used large blocks of the bird print and handquilted around the leaves and birds. It's framed with a red and black check and so is the back. Another very very easy fabric to handquilt since you can follow the lines!

Knitting and Loom Knitting

This is a little childs hat I knitted on a Knifter Knitter loom. It's for my friends little girl.

This next one is for my grandson. I haven't seen him for awhile so next time I do, I'll get a picture of him wearing it. Here he is wearing the sweater and mittens I made him for Christmas. Little kids are confused when you attach their mittens to string! Rememer your Mom doing that? I grew up in Minnesota and my kids in Monata so they knew why the mittens are on strings. Ethan is going on 2.

These are my wristwarmers knitted with needles not on a loom. The pattern was on the Net someplace.
This little hat was done with needles and is called the Julia Roberts hat. I added the fun fur instead of using regular yarn just to make it fun and match a purse I made.
This is a shrug made on the largest Knifty Knitter loom. It's hard to wear it and take a picture at the same time so I had to lay it down. It's made with a yarn I picked up at JoAnns without a label or at least I've lost the label but I do know it's got some wool in it.

More Tole Painting

Here's more tole painted items. I can't tell you how many roses I painted! Must be in the thousands by now. Along with the candle sticks, I painted switch plate covers, boxes, lamps, you name it. If someone wanted roses on it, I painted it! Don't forget to click on photos to enlarge.
This next one is the same roses but darker for the older Victorian style. I used a crackle on them.

These next little tiny clay pots were painted with daisys and used for ring holders for when you do your dishes and don't want your rings to get wet. They sold well!
This next item was a class I taught. It was the most popular project I taught! The class always oversold and was turned into two! It features lots of floating.
These cute little placks were made for baby or children. They were especially fun to make.

Tole Painting

Some of my tole painted designs were published some were not. This first photo of the lighthouse and fuzzy animals was not published as they are not my personal designs. But I sure enjoyed painting them.

This next one is the design I created to become a certified Craft Designer. I had to create the design and write the instructions. I used a wood box, acrylic paint, decoupage paper and polymer clay for the embellishments on the outside. I used thread and decoupagepaper to embellish the inside. I did pass the test!

Remember the craft show craze? I was right in there with the best of them. I created and sold many many tole painted items in bazaars from small to large! I consigned and sold on Eay! This is just one. I will post more later.

Paper Mache

I love working with paper mache but this type is a paper mache clay. It's called Celluclay and it's made by Activa. Here's a link to their web site: http://www.reuels.com/reuels/Activa_White_Celluclay_II.html

At one time I used their product for my design work and this is just one of the designs. I actually started wit a chunk of packing foam material that I think came with a new monitor. It was then covered with the Celluclay and when it was dry, I painted it with craft acrylic paints. I made three indentions in the top for the three candles; which are actually little clay pot trays.

The cute little Celluclay bowls were really fun to make. You can see that the one on the left has a crocheted wire embellishment on the outside and the one on the right has a crocheted thread embellisment on the inside. It also has little bone handles. I actually boiled my own chicken bones to use. I know that's weird but it's really done more than you think.

This guy is Celluclay over a cardboard box. I have to admit I went a little overboard with the rust medium but he doesn't look too bad. The face is a wood glue-on much like the medallions you can find at your craft store. I attached it to the box after the paper mache and had to use a caulking around the edge of the wood piece to fill in any gaps. He looks great out on your patio as would the first piece with the candles. Make sure you use a very good polyurathane varnish.

Teal Green Blue Illusion Knit Drawstring Tote

This tote is knitted using my own illusion knit pattern I call Double Diamonds. I used a combination of two acrylic yarns and crocheted the top ripple edge for the drawstring. Drawstring is adjustable and was crocheted. The tote measures approximately 18" X 13.5". The back and lining is a navy blue polar fleece fabric. Completely machine washable in cold water, dry low.

Illusion Knit Drawstring Purse

This brown drawstring purse is one of my favorite designs. I used an illusion knit design and built it as I went. I used Lion Brand Homspun yarn and a dark brown Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn. I knitted in a twisted tassle top edge and used a drawstring I-cord strap. It is completely lined with a 100% cotton fabric. Measurements are approximately: 13" X 10.5" It is completely washable and low temp dry.

Cold Day in February

Our winter has been like everyone elses...........cold and wet! It's SuperBowl Sunday so I just wanted to quickly say today that I wil be changing the name of my blog.

I hope to make a few other changes as well. I have so many creative drives and I have so many projects I've complete that I want to show you. It'll take me some time but it'll be a fun process and it'll be a much better blog.

Darlilng Little Illusion Knit Tote

This is a darling little illusion knit tote using a strand of yellow and a strand of white acrylic yarn. You can see the fleur di lei pattern at a slant. I lined it with a pretty little yellow, green, pink line plaid. It is 100% cotton. I used cute large button to attach the handle. Ebay Selling Do you have to pay taxes when you sell on Ebay?

If you sell items on eBay for a profit, then you should report your eBay sales, and you may owe income taxes on any profits. It doesn't matter if it's just a hobby or if you are trying to build a business.

Generally, any income you receive from all sources is subject to income tax unless it is specifically exempt by law (hint: eBay profits are not exempt by law). That means that a lot of activities that you might not think of as taxable, such as garage sale income, gambling winnings, and yes – eBay profits – are taxable.

You must file a tax return if your net earnings from self employment are $400 or more. You are self employed if you carry on a trade or business for profit. If you are selling on eBay with the intent of making a profit, then you are self employed.

To report your earnings, you should file Form 1040, and attach Schedule C or C-EZ. Schedule C is used to calculate your net profit or loss from your business, which is then reported on your Form 1040.

At this point, you may be thinking "I don't run a business; I just sell on eBay as a hobby". Unfortunately, income from hobbies is taxable as well. Even worse, you can only deduct expenses up to your hobby income, which means losses are not deductible.

There are several tax advantages to selling on eBay. Personal expenses, such as the use of your car, home or computer may become partially deductible, retirement savings plans can shelter part of your eBay income from taxes, and you may be able to hire your family to help shift income to members in a lower tax bracket. So even if you only sell a few items on eBay, not only are you required to report your eBay earnings, it may even help you reduce your income taxes by taking advantage of tax opportunities available only to small business owners.

Finally, there is a common misconception that if you did not receive a 1099 or W-2, you are not required to report your income. This is not true. All income is reportable, regardless of whether you receive a form or not. EBay is only a facilitator of the auction; therefore you will not receive a 1099 from eBay reporting your sales.

What to Sell on Ebay.......Your Complete Guide to Auction Sales

It's a good idea to gain experience by being an Ebay customer first. That way you can learn what your customers will do and what they go through to purchase from you when they win your auctions.
Check to see what others do about shipping and handling and their other purchasing requirements. Get very familiar with how Ebay operates; their dos and don'ts. DON'T begin by going out and buying a bunch of wholesale products until you know your niche and/or know what you want to sell and how WHAT you have chosen does sell.......good or bad.

The best thing to start with is your own used goods; as I've mentioned before. Take shipping into consideration. The buyer will pay for shipping if you set it up that way. But remember they don't like papying those high shipping fees either. Keep things small and light weight. They really are the best and the easiest, for beginners at least. Paper products, craft supplies, etc.; things one pound and under makes life easier for you and the experience is invaluable. Selling small items, used and small gifts you have no use for any longer, etc. makes for low risk of any capital and all you'll risk is some small ebay fees.

Everything is for sale. Anything sells on Ebay. You might be surprised so spend some time searching and shopping on Ebay. Don't forget to check the "completed listings" box in the left hand column to see what things actually sold for.

Maybe you have a hobby or some interest that could bring in a few dollars for you. Hobby supplies or craft supplies can be just right if it's your interest. You don't need to sell high priced items to make some money. It doesn't need to be large pieces of painted furniture, outdoor patio furniture or heavy kitchen faucets!

Don't go out and buy hundreds of the latest hot item selling on Ebay. There's already too many people doing just that. You can sell these items and this type of thing later after you've gained some experience. There's plenty of import companies to buy directly. Wait and do that after you've got some experience under you belt.

It's always good to know something about what you sell. There's lots of collectors buying on Ebay. People collect just about everything. Become knowledgeable about a few collectibles. The Internet is an endless source of information.You can then, after some experience, try a larger dollar item. Remember you have to sell a lot of small priced items to make enough money to call it a real income. You'd need to sell 100 of a $2.00 item to make $200 or five $40 items to make $200. Less work for the same dollar amount.

Sometimes selling sets can bring you more money than parting out and sometimes visa versa. For instance, a set of dinnerware sold by piece may bring in more money that selling the set. Sometimes the whole set will sell better. Sometimes lots sell better when it's sold in categories. Keep same kind together. Do your homework and see how what you want to sell sells best. Use Ebay to help you make money on Ebay.

Watch Ebay auctions for large lots. You can buy the whole lot and then break the lot down into smaller lots and sell them to people wanting the item but don't want that many. Also look for misspelled description words. I'll write another article on that subject later.

You simply need some market and product knowledge. Know your product and do your homework. You will be competing with many sellers just like yourself. Make sure you know exactly what you're buying for resale so you can write a smart description and have the information. More info later on writing a good description.

There are some areas that take a lot of money to get into; electronics being one of them. There are also many many sellers in this catagory. Let's not forget the vintage catagory. That's one of my favorites. There's vintage everything. And vintage everything can be found everwhere.....garage sales, second hand stores, thrift stores and flea markets. Don't overlook this catagory.
I have not gotten into drop shipping myself but it is another strategy used by many new sellers. I cannot recommend working with drop shippers because I don't have the experience with them but I have heard many can be unreliable. And don't forget, it's your feedback and reputation on the line. Same with selling for your friends. If you do so, make sure you do the shipping. The faster you get the item in the mail the better. I very very often ship the same day or next day the item is fully paid for. I have impeccable feedback because of this. I would not and cannot recommend this way of finding product.

Ebay has a list of hot selling items. Look for it in their site map. Here's their link. http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html. Do make use of it. Maybe you'll find that one something you want to try selling and may already have. I do know that it is an Ebay requirement that if you sell clothing, it needs to be cleaned and in good repair. You need to state in the description if there's any defects. That's ok, BUT the items needs to be clean.

Here's a few ideas for you:

New and used clothing, Military and history items,auto parts, maps, art prints, calendars, pictures, fabric, old greeting cards, dishes. Just to name a very few. There's too many to mention. It's a good idea to specialize or find a niche market and learn everything about it and work it till it runs dry for you.

Now, if you've opened your Ebay account, don't forget to open your PayPal account.

New Circle Square Illusion Shadow Knit Pattern Sample

Ok, I finally got the new pattern finished and decided to post it before I actually made it into something. It's better but I think it's still too elongated and I think if I was to make it big enough to include 4 squares, it would be nicer and maybe make more sense. There's the square and then the circle inside the square and then a square inside the circle. I'll use this pattern on something.......not sure what and then will post it so you'll see the full pattern.

Another beautiful day here in Seattle. Just beautiful. Don't even know if it got to 70 but it came close and nice and sunny, too.

We went to the state fair all day yesterday, the weather was perfect, and we found this wonderful embroidery technique done by a Chinese family. Their web site is www.silkart.ca. Make sure you read about how the embroidery is done. The thread they use is so so thin you can hardly see it and it makes for exqusitely detailed work and vibrant colors.

I'm working on the same pattern but still trying to make it less elongated and more of a circle. There's more ideas floating around in my head that I want to try, too. So stay tuned.....

A New Day and a New Pattern

I haven't posted for a few days.....what's wrong with me!? LOL I have been busy working up a new illusion shadow knitting pattern. I will take a picture and post it before I make it into a purse or tote then maybe you can see the patter much better. Maybe maybe not. To be honest with you, I can't wait to show it off. It's suposed to be a circle within a square but with illusion knitting things get a little elongated. I'm working to fix that with the same pattern but done differently. I'm hoping to figure out how to create a real circle! Stay tuned......

Everyone likes to talk about the weather and it is really truly gorgeous here in the Northwest. Not hot but about 70 degrees and beautiful blue skies!

I am so close to finishing my lates illusion shadow knit design I should close and get to work. Stay tuned for the latest...........

Beautiful Day in Seattle!

Even though it's cloudy and gloomy, it's a beautiful day in Seattle! It's nice to have a cooler day once in awhile in August! You can open windows and and not have to turn on the AC. By the end of the week summer is supposed to return.

I just came home from a 17 day vacation. Well, came home about 5 days ago, and still cannot get back into my old routine. I actually took time to go through my two knitting boxes in the livingroom to see where I was at when I left but I can't figure it out. I can't find my patterns and not sure where I was so guess I'll just start over. I am going to post some pictures of my latest purse designs. What am I going to do with all these purses!? LOL
